Holmes has his eye on the Dawgs

Eagle Point (Or.) DE Tyrone Holmes isn't a man of many words, choosing to let his actions on the field do his talking. The athletically gifted prospect has two offers from Pac 12 schools and one school that he has his eyes on is Washington and so far the Huskies are returning that interest...

"I've been talking with Washington for a little while now," Holmes told Dawgman.com. "I spoke to coach (Doug) Nussmeier the other day and we just have continued keeping the lines of communication open.

"They are recruiting me pretty well and I have UCLA and Cal also looking at me and then I have my four offers -- Washington State, Oregon State, Idaho and Portland State."

While Holmes said he grew up watching Oregon State and rooting for the Beavers, he did say that will only play a small part in his decision.

"I've always liked them and, yeah, it would be great to go there, but there is a lot more to it than just liking a school," Holmes said. "I need to make sure they have a good business school because I want to go into business marketing and I also want to see where the direction of the program is going.

"I also want to get a feel for the coaches and the rest of the players. If it all works out and Oregon State is the best school that matches all that stuff, then great, but I want to look at the other schools offering me and showing interest too."

As a junior in 2010, Holmes used his size, speed and athleticism to post 37 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss to go along with four sacks and five batted balls.

"In my pass-rush, I feel like I'm pretty quick and that I can get to the quarterback no matter who I face," Holmes said. "I just need to get stronger and keep working on my quickness and my 'get off' so that I can be even better this fall."

Holmes said he hasn't really thought about a timeline for a decision, but that he'd like to take some official visits before it's all said and done.

"I'd like to take some officials for sure," Holmes said. "I just don't want it to affect my senior season though, so we'll see what happens."

Holmes and the rest of his teammates report to camp on August 18th and begin their season by facing Mountainview (Bend, Or.) High School on September 2nd.
