Trip Report - Pio Vatuvei

This weekend, Washington hosted current USC commit, Pio Vatuvei, a defensive line prospect from Patterson, California. was finally able to speak to the talented defensive prospect and he updated us on things and said he would rate his visit "more than a '10'"...

"Oh man, I had a great, great time up there," Vatuvei told "I committed to USC back in the summer and I was happy with that, but Washington has kept in touch and they said they just wanted to get me up there on a visit and with my relationship with them, I felt like I should give it a shot.

"Before I left I was sorta skeptical, just thinking that Seattle was going to be boring and stuff, but it was the exact opposite.

"I really loved it up there and all of the guys and coaches I got to meet were just great.

"I'd give it more than a '10' if that's possible."

Vatuvei's host on his trip was LB Thomas Tutogi and the two spent time hanging out with a lot of the other Polynesian players.

"Hauoli Jamora came up to me and said 'so you're the guy who looks like my little twin brother' and we just hit it off from there," Vatuvei said. "He was great and all of the other players were really great to me and showed me how much fun they have.

"I'd say the highlight of the trip was just the time I got to spend with the players and how the players and coaches treat each other. All of them are like a family and that was a really big thing for me because wherever I go, I want to feel at home and I really do up there."

Vatuvei and his team begin the state playoffs this coming weekend, so for now he said the recruiting process will be on hold, but he said he has an official visit set up with Utah for January 13th and that he plans to visit USC and California in December.

"I haven't set up the other two yet (USC and Cal), but I'm really interested in visiting Cal and I really want to go to USC again, but this time officially," Vatuvei said. "Washington is right at the top for me and I feel like they will be there until the end when I make my decision and they have as good a chance as anyone to be the place where I end up signing."

We will have more from Vatuvei in the coming weeks and he gets closer to making his decision.
