Turpin says he's a Dawg

We had it on Dawgman.com on Tuesday that there was a great chance that Dominguez (Compton, Ca.) DE Damion Turpin was leaning heavily toward committing to the University of Washington and on Wednesday, the day after his in-home visit with Husky head coach Steve Sarkisian, the talented defensive lineman made the call...

"I just committed to Washington," an excited Turpin told Dawgman.com. "I called coach Sark and told him I wanted to be a Dawg and he was really happy.

"It was everything about the program and the coaches. I really like coach Sark and when I told them I wanted to go slow they were like 'hey, take your time and make sure it's right' and that's what I did."

Turpin said the news of coach Demetrice Martin heading to UCLA was a bit of a downer, but had no impact on his decision.

"I really enjoyed coach Martin, but I love UW and that's why I chose them," Turpin said. "With coach Martin leaving, it's sad, but he's gotta do what is right for him and his family, just like I have to do that for me.

"I know that Brandon (Beaver) is sorta so-so on it because that was his position coach, but I'm gonna keep working on him and I'll do my best to get him to join me."

Turpin said he's unsure about taking visits at this point and may just opt to forgo any in the future, but said at this point he's not thinking about those things and is just happy to be a Dawg.
