McDaniel talks about UW coaching changes

With the firing of three defensive coaches Sunday, including Defensive Coordinator Nick Holt, it stands to reason that some recruits might start re-thinking their decisions. One recruit, North (Torrance, Ca.) LB/RB Ryan McDaniel, spoke to Dawgman.com about things and gave us his thoughts on the changes and where the Huskies stand with the talented two-way star...

"I'm a Husky and (the coaching changes) don't really mean that much to me," McDaniel told Dawgman.com Sunday evening. "I felt like, when I made my decisions, I was choosing the program and the head coach there, coach (Steve) Sarkisian, and where they were headed.

"I feel bad for the coaches (who were let go), but in the end, it's a business and the defense struggled so they had to do something.

"I didn't make my choice because of the coaches though, so this doesn't change anything for me. I'm a man of my word and I made my decision."

McDaniel said he continues to recover nicely from the knee injury he suffered two games into the season and that he still plans to enroll at Washingotn in March.

"Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to it," McDaniel said. "I can't believe that high school is almost over for me, so this Holidays season, I spent a lot of time with my friends and family, just seeing people and sharing time with them.

"Once I get up there, I'll be all business and I want to help make my mark on the program."

McDaniel also continues to assert he has no preference on which side of the ball he plays.

"If they need me at running back, then I'm great with that, but if they want me at linebacker, that'd be great too," McDaniel said. "I trust the coaches to put me in a place to make plays and to help our team however I can and I don't really care where it is."

We will have more in the coming weeks and McDaniel, along with the rest of the 2012 recruiting class, nears Signing Day on February 1st.
