Huskies extend offer to Cali athlete

One athlete who saw his stock skyrocket this past season was Livermore (Ca.) S/RB Demariay Drew. The talented two-way star has five offers, including Washington, as well as two other Pac 12 schools picking up the pace. Over the next three weeks he will take official visits to three schools he's favoring and he hopes to make a decision soon after that...

"I have five offers right now," Drew told recently. "Washington, California, Fresno State, San Jose State and Nevada and Oregon and Oregon State are both recruiting me pretty hard.

"I visited Nevada back in December and I'm visiting Washington this coming weekend. I'm visiting Cal on the 27th and I'm visiting Oregon on the 20th."

Heading into the season, Drew wasn't on anyone's radar, but as his head coach, Greg Haubner, said that all changed soon after the Cowboys' season ended.

"Nobody knew about him, but he had a great season for us and everyone's gotten on him," Haubner said. "He's a great athlete, able to play both sides well and he's also a great kid and that's why all of these schools have come calling."

Last year, as a two-way starter, Drew posted 1,291 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns while also racking up 79 tackles, seven sacks and one interception from his safety spot.

"Washington likes me at safety," Drew said. "Coach (Joel) Thomas is the one recruiting me for them and I feel like I've started to form a great relationship with him.

"Honestly though, I don't know much about Washington, so this weekend, I'm really excited about getting to see the school and the city.

"It's a top-notch university, so you know it's got great educational opportunities there and it's right in the city of Seattle which is great because it's a nice city."

There were some rumors that Drew had verballed to Cal after taking an unofficial visit to Berkeley recently, but both Drew and Haubner said that wasn't the case.

"I don't know where that came from," Drew said. "I didn't commit. I like them, of course, but no, I haven't committed."

Drew also dispelled rumors of academic troubles.

"I don't know what my core GPA is, but my overall is a 2.6," Drew said. "Right now I'm not qualified because I have one class left to take, but I'm doing that right now, so as long as I pass, I should be fine."

We will have more on Sunday after Drew returns home from his official visit as well as when he is ready to make his decision.
