Trip Report - Demariay Drew

In the age of internet recruiting, it's a rarity that a player flies so far under the radar that fans don't hear about them until December, but Livermore (Ca.) S Demariay Drew is just such a player and this weekend he visited Montlake to take in all that it means to be a Husky...

"Oh man, I had a great time," Drew told shortly after returning home from his visit. "It was great just meeting the players and hanging out with the coaches for a while, getting to know them better.

"My favorite part was the snow though. I loved it. I had never seen snow before, so when we went into dinner, it was raining and then when we left, it was snowing like crazy. I loved it."

Drew's host on his visit was redshirt freshman corner Marcus Peters who showed him around and told him about why he chose to become a Husky.

"He talked about all of the great friendships he has there and what a great school it is there," Drew said. "I knew him from when he was at McClymonds (Oakland) so it was great to get it straight from a guy who I sorta knew already."

Drew said he also spent time getting to know the man who would be his position coach -- Keith Heyward.

"I got along great with coach Heyward," Drew said. "He told me that he loves his players to be physical and why he moved up to Washington. He and coach (Justin) Wilcox both were talking to me not just like a football player, but also said that they are about teaching life lessons too and that's why they love being coaches.

"You could see the passion they have for their jobs and to be Huskies, so that was really great."

Drew also noted that his trip down to Century Link Field and to see the design plans for the remodeled Husky Stadium was a highlight.

"That new stadium is going to be great," Drew said. "For my first year though, if I sign there, I would get to play where the Seattle Seahawks play and that was really cool to see inside, from the stadium floor.

"That is a beautiful stadium and I know it would be great to play there."

Drew plans to visit Oregon next week and then California the following week before sitting down with his family to make his college choice.

We will have more in the coming weeks as Drew gets closer to making his decision.
