Huskies make early impression on Clark

Washington has extended early offers to a few players along the defensive line and one player that got one was Carter (Rialto, Ca.) DT Kenneth Clark. The talented defensive lineman is a beast on the field and also in the weight room and he told Dawgman.com he'd like to visit Montlake this summer if things work out...

"Right now, my three offers are from Washington, UCLA and Fresno State, but I have a bunch of other schools looking at me," Clark told Dawgman.com recenlty. "It was real special getting an offer from Washington because of the coaching staff they have their. Coach (Tosh) Lupoi is really well-respected and coach (Peter) Sirmon is the coach recruiting me for them and he's just a real down-to-earth, great guy and he's got pro experience, so that was something that I really respected when we started talking."

As a junior last season, Clark totaled 31 tackles, an amazing 17 tackles-for-loss and 8.5 sacks for a team that finished 11-2 overall, losing in CIF State Semifinals.

"I played both ways, center and d-tackle, but my position is d-tackle," Clark noted. "I love playing both ways because I never want to sit. I love to compete and I love the physicality of the game.

"One of my favorite things is getting a free shot on the quarterback. I love to hit 'em and then knock the ball free and help my team get the ball back so we can score."

One things that Clark is working on this summer is his overall strength, something he knows will need to improve before he enters college.

"I mean, I have over a year to work on it, so it's good, but I definitely want to get stronger all the way around," Clark said. "I have a 305-pound bench and I squat 525 pounds.

"I need to get both of those up and that's why I'm working out four days a week right now."

One thing that the Husky coaches have impressed upon him is their need to get him on campus to see all that Washington has to offer.

"They told me about the school and their tradition, but you need to see it for yourself you know," Clark noted. "I'd like to get up there to see some of their spring practices, but if I don't, I'll probably get up in the summer.

"I know I'd like to take an official there during the season at some point, but that's so far off right now, I'll just have to see what happens.

"I'm also wrestling right now too and that will be over in a couple of weeks. We have regionals this weekend, then Masters next week and then state is the week after that.

"I think I've got a great chance to do well, but there are some really tough guys out there, so it won't be easy."

We will continue to check in with Clark in the coming weeks and we'll update news on him as it happens.
