Kirkland likes the Huskies

One of the top linemen in the Pacific Northwest this year is Jesuit (Portland, Or.) OL Andrew Kirkland. While he already has two offers to his name, he's still waiting on several including Washington, a school that he visited back in March, and he spoke with about what it is about the Husky football program that he likes so much...

"When I went up there on a visit, it just blew me away," Kirkland told "The Washington coaches are all really great and I really liked meeting them and seeing their facilities and all of the stuff they have their for their student athletes."

Kirkland said that the academics at Washington are one of his biggest considerations.

"They really help their freshmen along and I liked that a lot," Kirkland noted. "It's a great university and they really support their athletes and make sure they are graduating and able to get their degrees because for most players they won't be playing pro ball and that's something that I really liked.

"They really help you get prepared for life after football."

Kirkland said Washington is recruiting him at guard and that they like the way he plays the game.

"I'm mean, I'm nasty and I like to be physical," Kirkland said. "I play fast and I'm aggressive and that's what most of the schools really like about me."

This offseason the 6'4", 280-pounder has been hard at work in the weight room and on the track working on both his speed and his fitness.

"I want to be dominant in the fourth quarter as much as I am in the first quarter," Kirkland said. "It's always about how you finish and I want to finish everything I do as strong or stronger than when I started."

In addition to waiting for an offer from the Dawgs, Kirkland said he's still waiting for offers on several other schools as well.

"I have offers from Portland State and Wyoming right now and I've gotten a lot of interest from, of course, Washington, Oregon, Oregon State, Boise State, Boston College and Duke," Kirkland noted. "I'm definitely going to go to Oregon and Oregon State's camps this summer and possible Cal and Washington's camps.

"I am also looking at going to Washington's Spring Game or at least a couple of their practices, but I'm not sure when I'll make it up there, but I', definitely planning on it."

Kirkland said he plans to wait to make his decision after his senior season, opting to "enjoy all of this recruiting stuff and seeing every school that likes me and that I am interest in."

We will have more on Kirkland after he visits Washington later this month.
