Junior to watch - Jonathan Luatua

Jonathan Luatua is a 6-2, 275-pound lineman from Everett, Washington, and while he plays for the Seagulls there's nothing small or dainty about Luatua or his game. The 1st team all-WesCo performer on both sides of the ball is looking for bigger and better things this fall, but he's going to have to remain patient while an injury to his foot heals.

We caught up with Jonathan at the James Hasty select camp, where he was eager to soak up all the teaching he could, even if he couldn't play. "I just want to learn more," he told TheInsiders.com. "They drew me in with their letter. It meant a lot to me. I'm going to pick up some tips so I can get better."

Not only does Luatua play on both sides of the line, but he also plays a little linebacker as well. "My coaches like to move me around on defense," Jonathan said. "I think I have a good shot of playing defensive end in college."

At 275 pounds, Luatua runs a 5.1 40. Everett doesn't max out in lifting, but Luatua does do 15 reps of 185 pounds on a regular basis.

Besides the Hasty camp, Jonathan also went to Washington's team camp, as well as his team camp in Everett. "I've just been going to camps, lifting and getting bigger," he said. "I liked the Washington camp. I wish I could have participated, but it was another chance for me to learn more techniques."

Washington and Oregon State have been recruiting Luatua the hardest, and he's also heard from Washington State and Oregon. He does not have any scholarship offers yet, but that could soon change.
