Huskies in the mix early for '14 TE prospect

Even though he isn't playing this season, that doesn't mean that Chaparral (Scottsdale, Az.) TE Trevor Wood hasn't received a lot of attention from schools. One in particular, the Univeristy of Washington, jumped into the mix early and Wood said the Huskies are one of the programs recruiting him the hardest...

"I have offers right now from Washington, Arizona and Arizona State and Oklahoma said when I come out there to visit on October 27th (when the Sooners play Notre Dame), they will have an offer for me as well," Wood told Dawgman.com. "The other schools that I've been hearing a lot from lately are Michigan State, Oregon, UCLA and Boise State and I've just started getting a lot of stuff from Michigan too."

Wood tore the labrum in his right shoulder over the offseason and he underwent surgery to repair the damage. He said that the surgery was a success, but he won't be able to do much until after the start of the year.

"It's still another three months before I can really start working out and lifting and stuff like that," Wood said. "The doctors said (the surgery) was a success, but they just have me rehabbing and then I'll start really lifting and stuff probably after the first of the year, something like that."

While he's not obviously not thrilled to miss his entire junior campaign, he did say there was one upside.

"With all of this free time, I can at least go and see schools and get some more information on them," Wood said. "I've got the Oklahoma visit and I'm not sure, but I will probably take another one or two visits, just to see schools and also meet with the coaches."

Wood had been a two-sport star for Chaparral, but said he will not be playing basketball this season in order to concentrate on getting ready for spring football and his senior season.

"I'll miss it, but football is what I love to do and I need to make sure I don't have any setbacks in my recovery," Wood said.

He also noted that he is currently up to 6'6" and weighs about 230 pounds.

We will have more on Wood in the coming months as he continues to rehab from his injury and we will update news on new offers and camps as it becomes available.
