Dawgman Predictions

The Huskies go for their FIFTH straight win and third straight on the road when they travel to Pullman for a 12:30 Friday kickoff in Martin Stadium. The Apple Cup has no real big stakes this year, but if Washington wins, they can head into their bowl game with 8 wins. Here is what the staff thinks will happen.

Patrick Thrapp – numbers guru:

All I can say about this team is that they preserver. No matter how many times they mess up, or shoot themselves in the foot. They just keep at it. They seem to know that the only thing that matters, is to win the next play. The Cougars will give it all. That is a given. I don't think it will be enough. Tuel is talented, and he has wheels. WSU has given up the most sacks in the nation, but they have also attempted the most passes in the nation. Stem the silly mistakes. Get Sankey rolling, & I think we win going away. Lots of "ifs" there.

Prediction: Washington 33, WSU 17

Andrew Dore – Dawgman.com intern:

The Huskies go on the road to Pullman for the Apple Cup. Although this is a rivalry, I don't think this game is going to be all that close. The Huskies are more talented and are on a hot streak winning four games in a row, which hasn't been done since 2001. For me, Keith Price has been the gauge to my confidence in the Huskies this season. Keith is getting back to where he was last year and is only getting better. The Husky defense will be solid as has become usual of late. The Cougars haven't won a game in conference this year and I don't expect this game to be their first.

Prediction: Washington 31, WSU 6
Jay Torrell – Scout.com Creative Print Director:

For the Huskies to lose this game everything will have to go wrong. The mayor of Pullman has been briefed by the American Red Cross on what would happen if the Cougars won the game. Here's the clip of the meeting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3ZOKDmorj0

Yes the Huskies can lose, this is the Apple Cup after all. I was at the 1982 game when Chuck Nelson supposedly missed the game winning field goal. I was there, he made it, ask him. But this is a really bad Cougar team without it's one really good defensive player (Long) and there are no freak snowstorms on the horizon. If the Huskies can just establish any kind of offensive momentum in the first half this will be a runaway. Price doesn't fumble, Sankey goes for 200, ASJ catches 10, defense forces turnovers...

Prediction: Washington 42, WSU 17
Scott Eklund – Dawgman.com Recruiting guru:

On paper, this one shouldn't even be close. Washington is playing very well on defense and their offense seems to have found an identity as a tough running team with Bishop Sankey leading the way. The only problem is, games aren't played on paper. Washington cannot start slow in this game. Keith Price cannot miss open wide receivers. The defense can't give up long drives early. This team cannot turn the ball over or kill itself with early penalties. If the Huskies avoid doing all of that and take come out ready to go, they should win by 20-plus points. I see them letting the Cougars hang around for a while, but eventually they pull away for a 17-point win.

Prediction: Washington 34, WSU 17
Chris Fetters: Dawgman.com Editor-In-Chief:

There's two ways this game can go. The first way is a repeat of Colorado, where the Huskies kill themselves in the foot ($1 to my buddy Jason Gesser) with early penalties and poor execution but pick it up in the third quarter after getting their hides chewed out by the coaching staff. The second way is that they start hot, score on their first couple of possessions and then put the game out of reach early and coast to the finish line with Brown coming in for Price the last few series of the game. Either way UW is playing a WSU team desperate to taste some success but frankly aren't talented enough to hang with the Huskies for a half, let alone 60 minutes. With Mike Leach cleaning house WSU will be back in a couple years, but right now they are god-awful.

Prediction: Washington 42, WSU 7
Kim Grinolds: Dawgman.com Business Operations:

Did you thought Colorado was bad? Washington State Is worse. They can't run the ball, they can't pass the ball, and they can't stop the run. They can't stop the pass either. We can't rush the quarterback, and they're prone to get kicks blocked. I can't wait to talk to Mike Leach after this game. I think I'll enjoy covering this one.

Prediction: Washington 52, WSU 13
David R. Samek – Dawgman:

Washington has the much more talented squad, and certainly the more confident of the two teams. The rushing game has returned to Montlake and Bishop Sankey is ready to carry the load in the Apple Cup against the team he spurned on LOI day two years ago. Look for lots of Bishop, and some Kasen Williams to the tune of three touchdowns. This one will be close….for one quarter. Washington will get up and WSU will hang their heads and quit.

Prediction: Washington 37, WSU 13
