Basham still expects to be a Husky

It's been a while since we've been able to catch up with Lynnwood (Wa.) DL Andrew Basham, but we spoke to the talented prospect recently and he filled us in on where things stand regarding him getting qualified as well as his latest meeting with a Husky coach...

"The defensive coordinator, coach (Justin) Wilcox, was here for an in-home visit with me," Basham told "We just talked a lot about football and about me and how I'm doing.

"They want me at defensive line and so we talked about that a little."

The talented lineman chose Washington back in June with seven other prospects following Washington's Rising Stars camp over offers from Oregon State and Arizona State and he had several other schools eyeing his talents.

Basham is one of the most athletic linemen in Washington's recruiting class, there's no doubt, but it's no secret that one of the reasons that teams have held off on offering is because of his grades. He told that he's been working hard on that element as well.

"They laid out the plan for me and that's what I'm working on now," Basham said. "I just need to get it all finished and do what I need to do and I should be okay."

As far as some rumors that came out about him quitting football, he said that isn't true.

"I just had some stuff I was working on and dealing with during the season," Basham said. "I never gave up football. I love to play the game."

Basham said he will take his official visit to Washington in January.

We will continue to keep track of Basham and will update news on him as it happens.
