Constantine Talks In-Home Visit

Sean Constantine broke bread - specifically breakfast - with Washington Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox Saturday after the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from Bellevue went on SportsRadioKJR with the guys from and talked about the Wolverines' fifth-straight 3A Championship.

"He just said good job, way to finish it out…five in a row," Constantine said of Wilcox's reaction to Bellevue's 35-3 win over Eastside Catholic at the Tacoma Dome, ensuring that the senior linebacker won a state crown for every year he's been at Bellevue. "He was excited."

Constantine stuck through the highs and lows of the 2012 season with a broken arm he suffered in October, but it only caused him to miss one game. The cast will be removed in a couple of weeks, but Wilcox didn't visit Constantine to chat him up on football or catch up on the daily gossip. He was there on business. And this is one side of the recruiting process that definitely gets glossed over; the help that's provided to student-athletes and support structure in place once they commit. It's not only from their high school coaches, teachers and counselors, but plans are also put in place by the college coaching staff to ensure the player is doing all they can to qualify academically at the next level - and that means the NCAA Clearinghouse, as well as reaching the required minimums for grade point average and a standardized test result.

"Coach Wilcox just went over what I need to get done with to get to the next level…make sure my grades are right and everything goes through," Constantine said. "Just academic stuff. There's no issues, he just want me to make sure my stuff is right instead of waiting around."

Did they also set up a time for Constantine to take his official visit to UW? "We are thinking about January 18th," he said. And that conforms to what we know about other local prospects visiting that weekend, including Interlake walk-on candidate Ryan Turman, as well as Constantine's Bellevue teammate and current UCLA verbal commit Myles Jack.
