Game Preview - Stanford

With a Pac-12 road winning streak intact, the Washington Huskies will look to sustain the success while taking on the Stanford Cardinal Saturday night at 8 p.m. PST in Palo Alto, Calif. The game will be aired live on ROOT. Stanford (10-6, 1-2), has not lived up to expectations thus far this season with losses to Belmont, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina State, USC and UCLA.

Despite the ups and downs, Dwight Powell has been a bright note emerging as a star in the conference. A 6-foot-10 junior forward hailing from Toronto, he is averaging 14.5 points a game with 7.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. In conference play, he has upped his numbers to 14.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

A beneficiary of Powell's success down low has been guard Chasson Randle. A 6-foot-1 sophomore from Illinois, he is averaging a solid 13.3 points per contest, but only shooting 38 percent from the field. On the defensive side, he is swiping away 1.6 steals a game.

In the paint there is Josh Huestis, who plays similar to Colorado State's Pierce Hornung. A 6-foot-7 forward, the Montana native has a knack for grabbing rebounds, averaging 9.1 a game and having gone into double digits four of the past five games. He also will provide on the scoring end with 9.2 points a game and defensively with 2.3 blocks.

Besides Powell, Randle, Huestis, expect to see big minutes from Aaron Bright and Andrew Brown. After that, Stanford will use their deep bench to their advantage and have a plethora of players in their rotation.

On the coaching front, Johnny Dawkins is now in his fourth year at the helm and has compiled an 85-65 record, but has never made it to the NCAA tournament. Against UW head coach Lorenzo Romar, he is 1-8. Top Stories
