Trip Report - Maurice Swain

Maurice Swain was one of three players from down south that braved the cold and long distance flight to see what Seattle and the University of Washington had to offer last weekend. In talking with the 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive end from Troup County High in LaGrange, Ga., he admitted he didn't know too much about UW until just recently.

Swain started speaking with Washington Defensive Line Coach Tosh Lupoi and the Huskies right after his season was over. "I saw them on TV and thought that there might be a good chance there," he told Thursday night when asked for his first thoughts when he found out UW was recruiting him. "I talked to coach Lup and he got me the details of the school and how everything was going to go down. He told me that he wanted me and he gave me the chance to come out and see what they are working with to see if it's a good fit or not."

Swain visited Washington with two familiar faces - Reuben Foster and Joe Sanders. "We played together on the same team for a year, but me and Reuben have been playing since middle school…so it was good to see that they want to play together again one day," Swain said, adding that it was the first time he had been west of the Mississippi.

Did he remember any highlights of the trip? "It was all pretty nice," said Swain. "I remember the whole trip. Everything was a blast to be a part of."

Shaquille Thompson was his player-host. What did Shaq tell Swain about the UW experience? "He told me he wasn't too far away from home but when he came up there he fit right in like family," said Swain.

The Huskies are recruiting the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Swain as a defensive end. He is going to Indiana this weekend, then Tennessee and finally Kentucky before making his final decision.

"I'll make my final decision on signing day," said Swain.
