Huskies are in the mix for Dorton

Washington is definitely looking for top defensive line prospects this year and one that has their attention early in the recruiting cycle is St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Ca.) DE Malik Dorton. Dawgman.com spoke to the pass-rushing phenom recently and he updated us on where things stand and talked about his interest in the Husky football program...

"Washington has offered me and they like me at defensive end," Dorton told Dawgman.com recently. "I've got a lot of interest in them. They've been recruiting me for a while and I know there are some guys up there (Keith Price and Will Shamburger) who are from here, so that's something I want to look at."

In addition to his offer from the Huskies, Dorton also has offers from Oregon State, UCLA, Washington State, Utah, Colorado, Arizona State, Boise State, San Diego State, Nevada, Mississippi and Utah State, bringing his total an even dozen.

"I guess if I had to give a leader, it would be UCLA, but I'm not even close to making my decision," Dorton said. "I want to get out to schools and see them. See what the gameday atmosphere is like and the area and the school. I'm not close to even really narrowing things down right now. I have a lot of time to think about what I want to do."

As far as visits this spring and summer, Dorton is looking at setting up some unofficial visits and says he knows he wants to officially visit some schools as well.

"I'm going to try and get up to Washington to see the school and meet with the coaches, but I'm not really sure if I will get to do that during the summer," Dorton said. "I know I want to visit them officially during the season, so that is one school I definitely plan to visit."

As far as a timeline for a decision, Dorton was non-committal, but he said he'd like to do it before the end of his senior season.

"I don't have an exact date, but probably sometime during my senior season is when I will do it," Dorton said. "I don't want to wait until Signing Day and I don't want to take it through the end of the year, so probably at some point during my season I'll commit and that will be that.

"I know that I want a school with a good staff and one I feel like I can work with and be with on a daily basis. I also want a school with good academics and I want to make sure I can get moved on to the next level by the staff that is there. Those are probably my top three things."

As a junior in 2012, Dorton posted 57 tackles and six sacks while earning All-League honors and as a sophomore back in 2011 he earned Second Team All-State Underclassmen honors as well.
