Pelon likes what he sees on UW trip

As one of the more highly-coveted JUCO defensive linemen in the country, Mesa's Claude Pelon could wind up anywhere in the country, but his past weekend he came away from his trip to Washington so impressed with what the Huskies had to offer he told he has a leader and could be visiting Montlake again next month...

"I had a great time up there," Pelon told "It was a great time just being up there and in that atmosphere. The (Alumni basketball game) was great. They had a lot of fun and it was a live crowd. I got to meet a couple of the players so overall it was an outstanding time up there. I really had a blast."

Even though he could wind up playing almost anywhere in the country with offers from the likes of the Huskies as well as Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Indiana, South Florida, USC and Wisconsin, Washington has made a lot of progress with him and he said they are his favorite school right now.

"After that visit, they are in the lead for me," Pelon noted. "The school was amazing and their facilities are really impressive. I love the stadium and how they are redoing it and then my relationship with the coaches, well, that's special and I've really enjoyed getting to know them better.

"They are doing great things there and I really felt good on my trip there."

Pelon said he expects to visit Washington late next month and also said he plans to take his official visit to Seattle for their game against Oregon (October 12th) although that hasn't been firmed up yet to this point.

As far as other visits, Pelon said the only other school he's planning to take an unofficial visit to is USC and that could happen this weekend.

"I've talked to them about heading there for a visit and I will probably do that this weekend, but I'm not sure at this point," Pelon said.

As far as when he graduates, he's on pace to finish up his AA degree in December and he hopes to enroll at a school in early January with the hope that he can push for playing time the moment he steps on campus.

Wherever Pelon winds up he will have three years to play two.
