Could Four-Star QB Be Visiting Washington?

Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose, Ca.) QB K.J. Carta-Samuels has opened up his recruitment after being a long-time Vanderbilt commitment. The talented signal-caller told over the weekend that he plans to take some trips and one school that is rumored to be making some inquiries is Washington...

"Things have been a bit crazy since coach (James) Franklin left (Vanderbilt), but I'm sorta just taking things as they come," Carta-Samuels told "I'm still very interested in (Vanderbilt) and I want to see who they bring in and where things are headed, but right now, I just felt like it was best for me to open things up and make sure I know who I am going to be playing for and the direction of the program."

Carta-Samuels said he's talked to several schools, but at this point, he hasn't heard from Washington except through the mail.

"I've been getting mail from them, but honestly, I am not sure if it was from the old staff or the new one," Carta-Samuels said. "I know the old staff was interested in me and they were recruiting me, but I haven't spoken to coach (Chris) Petersen or any of the new coaches yet.

"They run a great offense though and I know they really expect a ton out of the quarterback and as a guy who likes to be in control, it's really a quarterback-heavy offense.

"The schools that I have been talking to about visiting are Penn State obviously (Franklin's new home), UCLA a little bit and Boise State is another possible school I will visit. If things heat up with UCLA, I will definitely visit there and USC has been talking about getting me down for a visit, but that hasn't gotten that far yet."

Carta-Samuels' older brother, Austin, was a prospect back in 2008 and had hoped to receive an offer from the Huskies, but the staff under Tyrone Willingham didn't make him an offer, so he opted to sign with Wyoming, leading the Cowboys to a bowl game, before he transferred to Vanderbilt.

"He liked it up there and liked the program, so I have some familiarity with it, but they have had two staffs since then, so I am sure it's a little different there now," Carta-Samuels said with a chuckle. "I'm really open to finding the right spot for me and I'm open to listening to anyone that wants to offer. I am still going to visit Vanderbilt, probably January 31st, and I am visiting Penn State for sure, so that's two officials I am going to take and there are only three weekends where I can visit (before Signing Day on February 5th) so I am not sure how many I will actually take right now. It's still sorta up in the air."

We will continue to keep track of Carta-Samuels over the next few weeks and we will update news on him as is happens.
