Trip Report - Kalani Vakameilalo

Washington played host to several Pac 12 commits this weekend and one, Kapolei (Hi.) DT Kalani Vakameilalo, has a long flight home. During that nearly six-hour flight, he told he will be thinking about what he wants to do and hopes to talk to his family about his future plans when he returns as well...

"It was good," Vakameilalo told "I had a good time with the people up there. The players and the coaches were all really nice and welcoming."

Vakameilalo noted he didn't really have just one host while on campus. He had many.

"I spent time with pretty much all of the Poly guys," Vakameilalo noted. "I spent time with Danny (Shelton), Tani (Tupou), all those guys. They really made me feel at home and welcomed."

As far as what impressed him the most, Vakameilalo had his answer right on the tip of his tongue.

"Oh it was the equipment room for sure," Vakameilalo said. "I loved it all actually. All of the facilities are great and you just feel at home and you see all of the great stuff they have for the players there.

"I also really liked the academics. That's a big thing for me and my family."

Vakameilalo said he plans to go home and rest for the week and hopes to have a decision made after thinking about things and talking it over with his family and coaches.

"I just need to find what is best for me and my future," Vakameilalo said. "I have two really good options (Oregon State and Washington). I talked to Shane Bowman about his decision and what he's going to do, so it sounds like we both will be thinking about things."

We will continue to keep tabs on when Vakameilalo plans to make his decision and we will have an update when that happens.
