Saffle Talks UW Junior Day; Future Plans

Last weekend, Skyline (Sammamish, Wa.) LB Cameron Saffle spent most of the day touring the University of Washington's football facilities and talking with the coaching staff at Junior Day. caught up with him and got his thoughts on the future of the Husky program as well as which other Junior Days he plans to attend...

"I had a lot of fun there," Saffle told "I was really impressed with how organized the staff was and how they really broke things down for you. The old staff was cool, but they didn't seem to be as organized and I think this new staff won't get outworked on the details of things.

"You also get a feeling like they are about family and making sure you know you are a part of their family when you are there as a player. That was really cool."

Saffle and his father met with the coaches and ate lunch with several of the football staff members including defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.

"I really liked him a lot," Saffle said. "I've gotten to know coach (Bob) Gregory pretty well and when we broke out into position meetings, he told me I should head in with coach (Jeff) Choate because they are looking at me as a rush end 'backer type. I'd rush the quarterback a lot, but I would also drop back sometimes, so I went in and met with him."

While Saffle did not come away with an offer, he said the coaches laid it out how he could possibly earn one.

"They definitely want me at the Rising Stars camp," Saffle said. "Coach Gregory was telling me that this year it's going to be padded, so that'll be a lot of fun and hopefully, if I perform well there, then I might get an offer."

The recruiting landscape for Saffle has gotten brighter over the past six months as he's shown he was fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered as a sophomore as he posted 62 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, 11 sacks and an interception.

"I had a good year, but I know I can play even better," Saffle said. "I just need to keep working and getting stronger and faster and the rest will come."

Saffle noted that he plans to attend Washington State's Junior Day next month and that he has also been in contact with Cal about theirs, but has yet to firm up a trip down to Berkeley.
