Highly Sought In-State OL Enjoys Visit to UW

The 2015 crop of football recruits in the state of Washington is loaded with talent along the offensive line. One that has seen his stock skyrocket since the start of the year is West Valley (Yakima, Wa.) OL Shane Lemieux and on Saturday he was at Montlake so he could meet with the new Husky coaching staff...

"I was down at Oregon this weekend and my dad was in town, so I decided since I'm over here on this side of the mountains, I should drive up and see (Washington)," Lemieux said. "The visit went really great. I loved meeting the staff and coach (Chris) Petersen talked with me and my dad about his plans for the program over the next couple of years.

"I really felt like he cares about the player, not just about football. That was really impressive. They also really sold me on the academic side of things and that's something that I really was impressed with because they were one of the few schools that sold me on that."

Lemieux did not come away with an offer, but he said they did discuss the prospect of one coming.

"Talking to the coaches, we had never really met before, so, more than anything, it was just nice meeting them and starting that relationship with them," Lemieux said. "When I talked to coach Petersen he said they want to make sure I'm the right prospect for them and that they are the right school for me, so they are going through their evaluations and they said they want to continue to get to know me better."

As far as his visit to Oregon is concerned, Lemieux said he enjoyed his time there, but was a tad disappointed with one aspect.

"Oregon was kinda disappointing because their academics just weren't something they really promoted," Lemieux said. "I was hoping to find out a little more about that, but I didn't so, I guess I will have to learn more later on.

"As far as meeting coach (Mark) Helfrich, he just seemed like a really cool, down-to-earth guy. I had met him before, but it was only once and it was just to say 'hi' at my school so it was nice to get to meet him in person again and to talk to him about the program."

Lemieux claims offers from Boise State, Washington State, Oregon, Arizona State, East Carolina, South Carolina, Idaho and California and, besides Washington, he is getting heavy interest from the remaining Pac 12 programs as well as some others.

He admitted he is not close to making a decision and, at least at this point, he wants to go through the process before he makes a commitment.
