Weaver Plans To Camp At UW This Summer

Even though he has yet to finish up his sophomore year of high school, Gonzaga Prep (Spokane, Wa.) DE Evan Weaver, one of the top in-state prospects for the 2016 recruiting class, is a wanted man. He's already hauled in one Pac 12 offer and more could be on the way after he hits the road this summer to participate in a couple of camps...

"My one offer right now is from Washington State," Weaver told Dawgman.com. "I have been talking a lot with Washington and I went over and watched one of their practices during spring ball and I've been talking a little bit with Arizona State."

While he was on campus at Montlake, Weaver said he got to spend time watching how they conduct themselves on the practice field and he also got to meet with several of the defensive coaches as well.

"I talked to coach (Jeff) Choate, coach (Pete) Kwiatkowski and coach (Bob) Gregory and it was a really good time over there," Weaver said. "The facilities are top-notch and I liked the way they ran practice.

"It's all high-tempo and they never wasted time from one drill to the next one. It was a lot of coaching and stuff and I liked that a lot."

Weaver said the Husky staff sees him as a linebacker right now, but said that if he grows, he could easily wind up along the defensive line which is just fine with him.

"I don't really care one way or the other where I play as long as I get to hit someone," Weaver said with a bit of a chuckle. "I mean, I am used to playing defensive end, so that's a more natural fit for me, but I will play wherever the staff, with whichever school I sign, wants me to play."

As far as camps this summer, Weaver only plans to take in two -- USC and Washington's "Rising Stars" camps -- and he will also participate in his team's offseason "border league" where GP takes on teams from Idaho.

"I'll be real busy, so I just have to get out and see schools that I need to see and ones that I am interested in," Weaver said. "I am open to anyone that wants to recruit me and I won't make a decision for a while."

We will have more on Weaver in the coming weeks and months as he hits the road this summer.
