Are Huskies Close To Offering Maihen?

An emerging line prospect in the west right now is Santa Margarita (Ca.) Catholic OL Austin Maihen. At 6'5" and weighing in at just over 280 pounds, he's got the size to play tackle to go along with the aggressiveness of a guard. Several Pac 12 schools have begun to show him quite a bit of interest over the past couple of weeks and the Husky coaches are expected to drop by his school very soon...

"I talk to coach (Chris) Strausser and he said he's going to be coming by soon to see me," Maihen told Dawgman.com. "He said they are interested in me and that they like the way I play.

"I can't really say they are close to offering, but I think they are thinking about doing it, so we'll have to wait and see what happens with it."

One of Maihen's former teammates, Dane Crane, plays for the Huskies and he said the two have stayed in contact since Crane headed to Seattle last summer.

"He never says a bad thing about the place," Maihen noted. "He loves it up there. He really likes the new staff and his teammates and he said Seattle is great."

In addition to his interest from the Dawgs, Maihen is also hearing from Oregon, Stanford, Cal and Washington State among others.

"Washington State told me they were going to offer me in January, but I didn't get one, so I'm not really sure about what is going on with that," Maihen said. "They are still recruiting me pretty hard though.

"Oregon and Stanford have been in contact at lot and they like me. Oregon said they want to offer me, but they want to come down and see me before they do anything."

As far as camps are concerned, Maihen said he plans to take in Stanford and Oregon's camps and may hit Washington's camp depending on how his visit with Strausser goes later this month.

We will continue to keep in touch with Maihen over the next few months and will update news on him as it happens.
