Huskies Give Stewart A Look

A corner prospect emerging on the recruiting front over the past few weeks is Corona (Ca.) Centennial CB Jihree Stewart. Several Pac 12 schools, including Washington, have been by to check in on him and his progress and he updated recently on where things stand as well as what other programs appear close to offering...

"Things have been going good so far," Stewart said after a workout. "I've got 12 offers and a couple more are close.

"Nebraska and Notre Dame are the ones that seem like they are close, so we'll just have to see what happens."

The 12 schools that have extended offers Stewart's way include Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Duke, Fresno State, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Wisconsin and while the Huskies have yet to extend him an offer, they are definitely giving him a lot of attention.

"Coach (Keith) Bhonapha is the coach recruiting me for (Washington)," Stewart said. "I know they have a whole new staff there and some of my teammates are there or are going there, so I definitely know about them and the kind of football they play there.

"I think it'll be a good switch for them. Coach (Chris) Petersen is there now and he's got a great reputation and he's won a lot, so I think it will only help them in the future."

As far as camps are concerned, Stewart was non-committal, but he did mention that he hopes to make it to Seattle at some point in the future.

"Honestly, a lot depends on how much they want me. If they aren't interested or aren't that interested, why would I camp there or visit there? But if they like me and recruit me, then of course I will give them a look.

"I'm starting to make my camp plans right now, so I hopefully will have that mapped out before the end of the week or so. I am looking at schools that are after me and of course the local ones -- USC and UCLA -- but I am not really committed to any camps at this point. I still have to map that all out.

"The one school that I know I am going to officially visit is Oregon, but I haven't set that date yet."

As a junior this past fall, Stewart had 35 tackles and two interceptions from his cornerback position.
