Is UW Still In The Mix For Wicker?

He was committed to the Huskies last year, but after Steve Sarkisian left, Long Beach (Ca.) Poly DE Joseph Wicker decided to pull back and open things up. So, with 11 offers now to his name, is the talented defensive lineman still serious about the Dawgs? Read on to find out...

"I just talked to coach (Chris) Petersen (Tuesday)," Wicker told "They are still recruiting me pretty hard.

"He just talked about what they are doing up there and he said they still want me to commit there and to play there. He said they need me and he thinks I'd be a good fit up there.

"It's basically the same stuff that everyone says to you, so it wasn't that different from anything I have already heard."

Wicker committed to the old Husky staff when he was up in Seattle for their Rising Stars camp last June, but when he pulled back, it seemed as if he was saying he didn't want to consider the Dawgs anymore. He says that isn't true at all.

"Oh no, I really like coach Petersen and coach 'K' (Pete Kwiatkowski) and I feel they are really honest about things," Wicker said. "They had a great program at Boise State and I think it will only be better at Washington, so yeah, I am still really high on U-Dub."

In addition to Washington, the other schools that have offered the talented defensive lineman are Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Miami, Oregon State, SMU, Notre Dame, Colorado State, Washington State and Fresno State and he said several more could be very close to extending offers his way.

"The three that really seem like they could be closer are Oregon, USC and UCLA," Wicker noted. "Oregon has been heating up with me a lot and with the old U-Dub staff down at USC now, they know about me and they like me a lot, but they also have some other guys they are after, so I think it could take a while."

As far as camps are concerned, Wicker said he hasn't made any plans, but that he has started to think about where he will wind up going.

"I was up at Washington's camp last year and this year I guess it's full-contact and that's pretty cool so I'm considering it, but I'm not really sure," Wicker said. "I've already been up there and seen it, so I'm not really sure if I will go up again, but then again, last year it was sorta a last-minute thing for me to get up there, so you never know.

"I'm looking at some other camps -- USC, UCLA -- and maybe a Nike camp, but I'm not really sure."

Wicker also said he will take all of his official visits and hopes to make an announcement right around Signing Day (February 4th) next year.
