With the win the Bruins (24-29-1, 11-17 Pac-12) snapped a ten game losing streak and continued their dominance over the Huskies (38-14-1, 20-8) since 2008, winning for the 18th straight time.
The game also marked the third consecutive shutout pitched against Washington following 1-0 and 3-0 defeats at Oregon State the previous weekend.
Kaprielian (7-6) showed why Baseball America in its 2014 College Preview ranked him as the top pitching prospect in the sophomore class and third overall, allowing only a pair of singles to Brian Wolfe, a single to Andrew Ely and a double to Branden Berry. He went eight innings while walking two and striking out 11. He recorded his fifth double digit strikeout game of the season and upped his conference leading total to 108.
David Berg set the Huskies down in order in the bottom of the ninth to notch his 10th save of the season.
The only runs the Bruins would need on this night came in the top of the first when they scored two against Jared Fisher (6-4).
With one out Trent Chatterton lined a double in and out of the glove of Wolfe in right field. Shane Zeile walked with two outs and Justin Hazard followed with a triple to left center field to score Chatterton and Zeile.
The Bruins had a chance to give Kaprielian even more run support when Christoph Bono and Luke Persico got hit by pitches to load the bases, but Fisher limited the damage by striking out Pat Gallagher to end the inning.
The Bruins made it 3-0 in the top of the sixth when Aaron Weimer walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a line single to right by Ty Moore.
Fisher ended up going seven and two thirds innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out three.
The two teams play the middle game of the series at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. The pitching matchup will feature Husky right hander Tyler Davis and Bruin left hander Grant Watson.
