Washington Mourns Passing of Abner Thomas

Dawgman.com learned Monday that Abner Thomas, long time Washington Athletic Department Operations Assistant and a constant of the Washington Football program throughout the last three decades, has passed away. Anyone associated with UW Football will remember Thomas’ happy-go-lucky manner and his mentoring of players.

“So sorry to hear about the passing of one of @UWAthletics finest. Abner Thomas you will be missed, you will be celebrated. #WOOF #WOOF”, said former UW running back star Napoleon Kaufman via Twitter when the news came down of Thomas’s passing. “RIP Abner Thomas. You were a great friend and supporter. I'll forever hear your voice shouting "Move the Chains!!" said another UW legend, Marques Tuiasosopo.

“Sad to hear about the passing of Abner Thomas. Can't remember a @UW_Football practice where he didn't greet me on the way in. R.I.P.,” said Dave ‘Softy’ Mahler of Sports Radio KJR.

Thomas's influence in the athletic department pushed way past football. He mentored student-athletes from all sports. "#RIP Abner Thomas you were truly a blessing to everybody, you will be missed! #GoDawgs" said Hoops great Isaiah Thomas via Twitter.

On a personal note, I echo Softy’s sentiments about Abner. Ever since starting on this journey covering Washington Athletics, Thomas was ever present. We even had our own special greeting when heading into practice. With fall practice starting in a week, camp just won’t be the same without Abner Thomas.

Rest In Peace, Abner.
