Wellington Commits to U-Dub

Brandon Wellington, a 2016 athlete from Eastside Catholic High School in Redmond, has verbally committed to Washington, accepting the Huskies' offer over ones from Colorado, Washington State, and Oregon State. He becomes the first commitment for Washington's 2016 class. He's considered a top-10 running back for the Scout.com recruiting class of 2016.

“Staying home with family, just being around the environment with the Dawgs,” he told Dawgman.com shortly after announcing his decision via Twitter.

"Brandon Wellington @B_Maney7 · 33m I've decided to commit to the university of Washington #GoDawgs" was the tweet.

Wellington admitted he’s had a great feel for the coaching staff for awhile, especially the head man. “Coach Petersen, he’s close to the players and he doesn’t leave anyone out,” said the 6-foot, 205-pound Wellington.

Brandon thought about committing Monday, but made the decision Tuesday and went to Montlake to tell Petersen personally. So about 45 minutes ago, Wellington dropped the good news on Pete.

“He loved it,” Wellington said of Petersen’s reaction to the news. “The whole coaching staff was ecstatic about it.”

Wellington is being recruited to play running back and/or outside linebacker. “I’ll play anywhere where I can get on the field first," he said.
