Scrempos Visits, Commits to UW

Dawgman.com spoke Tuesday night with Milpitas, Calif. defensive end Jason Scrempos, and the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Scrempos confirmed that he verbally committed to Chris Petersen and the Washington Huskies.

“I called coach Petersen after practice,” Scrempos told Dawgman.com. “He was fired up. He told all the other coaches and I could hear them.”

Scrempos has long been admired by the Huskies, as he was originally offered by Steve Sarkisian. When Sark left for USC, Scrempos wondered if Petersen still would honor his scholarship. The answer was a resounding yes.

“I wondered if I still had an offer, so I called them up and they said, ‘Yeah, we want you up here’. They were always very welcoming and they were excited about me the whole time.”

Even though Scrempos had offers from other Pac-12 schools like California, Arizona and Oregon State, he took his first official visit up to Washington this past weekend. The Huskies defeated Illinois 44-19, and Scrempos was able to reconnect with another Milpitas product now playing at UW - defensive tackle Vita Vea.

“He just told me that the coaching staff is really good,” said Scrempos. “He said that the coaches are going to be around a while, and everything they say - it’s all true.

“I just loved it up there. The coaches made me feel at home, even though I’ll be two states away. The football team is on the rise and they have a great thing going there right now.”

Scrempos didn’t have a commitment in mind when he made his official visit, but when he got done with his 48 hours in Seattle he knew he wanted to be a Husky.

Washington is recruiting Scrempos as either a defensive end or 3-technique.
