McCoy Sets UW Visit

Roosevelt (Fresno, Ca.) DL Ricky McCoy had an outstanding senior season and now has turned his attention toward recruiting. Washington is right at the top of the Arizona-commits list and he said he will be in Seattle in mid-January to check things out...

"I talk to coach (Jordan) Paopao, coach (Jeff) Choate and coach Pete (Chris Petersen) almost every week," McCoy told "They have really been showing me a lot of interest and how much they want me and how they want to use me in their scheme and program, so I've really been feeling Washington pretty strongly."

McCoy maintains he is committed to Arizona, but said he hasn't spoken with the Wildcat coaches in over two months.

"It's definitely been a while," McCoy said. "We sorta had a falling out because they took a guy when they said they were done recruiting my position and they wanted me on offense and I like to play defense anyway.

"Washington likes me on 'D' and they have showed me how they would use me if I went there."

And how would Washington use McCoy?

"They want me as a defensive end when they go to a 3-4 and as a three-tech (between the guard and tackle) or a five tech (head up on the tackle or tight end) when they got to a 4-3 base (defense)," McCoy noted. "I've got the size and quickness to play anywhere they want me to play and I really like how they use their defensive linemen and how active they are."

McCoy got a chance to watch Washington's Apple Cup victory this past weekend and he said he sees a lot of what he likes to do in what the Dawgs do up front.

"It would be pretty comfortable for me from a scheme standpoint," McCoy said. "I know they are losing a lot of great players and they are trying to re-stock the shelves there, so I could definitely have a chance to come in and play early there.

"I like how they stunt and how physical they are up front. That's the kind of game I love to play."

McCoy finished his senior season with 65 tackles, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles and one interception.

He said he plans to visit Washington on January 16th and has no other plans to visit any other schools.
