Trip Report - DeVante Wilson

Typically, official visits happen over a weekend. However, there are times, especially as things get closer to Signing Day, that prospects will take a trip in the middle of the week. That's what happened with Riverside DE DeVante Wilson earlier this week as he was at Montlake from Wednesday to Friday and he took the time, while sitting at the airport, to talk about his trip with Dawgman.com...

"I had a good time," an understated Wilson told Dawgman.com. "I've been through (the recruiting process) before, so it really wasn't about having fun as much as it was about seeing the school and meeting with the coaches and getting the information I needed to make a decision on where I want to play my final two years."

Wilson's host on his trip was Cory Littleton and the two spent time getting to know each other on Thursday night.

"He was busy with stuff on Wednesday and during the day on Thursday, but I got a chance to hang out with him on Thursday night," Wilson said. "He's a good dude. He answered all of my questions and we just talked about his experience there.

"His big thing was that the school and the program are all about what you make of your time there. He loves it there and he really likes the staff there, but he said it's all about what I make of it while I am there."

Wilson said that two of the things that stuck out to him were his meetings with the coaches and the support for the players, both academically and also as far as the training staff.

"They really support their athletes there. That was really impressive," Wilson said. "They make sure you take care of things off the field before you get on the field, so you can really see their philosophy there of performing in every aspect of your life."

Wilson took an official visit to Washington State last weekend and committed on his trip there, however, he also still thought it was prudent to take trips to other schools to make sure he made the right decision.

"I probably committed a little too early just because I wanted to make sure I had a place to play," Wilson said. "I really enjoyed myself up there (at Washington State) and I'm still committed there, but (Washington) gave me a lot to think about and I'm headed to (Berkeley) to spend time up at Cal this weekend and see what they have to offer.

"After I get home from that visit on Sunday, I'll take a couple of days to think about things and then really decide where I'm going to play. I won't make a decision until Wednesday (December 17th) when I can sign, so no one will really know until I sign the letter and fax it in."

Wilson played in all 12 games for the Tigers this season and finished with 36 tackles, three sacks, 12 tackles-for-loss and one fumble recovery.

He is done with his academic work and will have two years to play two starting in 2015.
