Huskies Get In Early With Top '16 Prospect

A budding superstar on the West Coast as far as the 2016 recruiting class is concerned is Gardena (Ca.) Serra DE Oluwole Betiku. The Nigerian-born prospect has only played one year of football, but he's already received 16 offers from schools across the country and he updated Dawgman.com recently on where things stand including his interest in the Huskies...

"Washington offered me a little while ago," Betiku said over the weekend. "I've actually got 16 offers total and a bunch of other schools have been talking to me."

Besides the Huskies, the other schools that have offered the athletic prospect include Arizona State, Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC and Washington State.

"Washington is a schools I am interested in," Betiku noted. "Coach 'K' (Pete Kwiatkowski) is the coach recruiting me for them. He's a nice person. I really enjoyed talking to him. He said they feel like I could be a great fit in their system.

"He and I have talked about me coming up there to visit, but I am not sure when that could happen since I'd want to bring my family up (to Seattle) too.

"Since I am from Nigeria, I'm not really used to (recruiting) and what is expected of me and when I can make trips and stuff like that."

With his long arms, great size (6'4", 245) and elite athleticism, Betiku was a real menace to Serra opponents, posting 59 tackles, an amazing 24 tackles-for-loss and 11.5 sacks, leading the Cavaliers in both categories.

While he enjoyed quite a bit of success as the season progressed, one game he said he'd rather forget is Serra's game against Bellevue (Wa.), a 31-14 defeat at the hands of the Wolverines.

"I've only played football for one year, so that was just my second game," Betiku noted. "I was still learning where my pad level needed to be and what my assignments were.

"It was really hard to find the ball against them. They do a good job with what they do. My coaches said you won't find a lot of programs that can do those things. It was frustrating though. It's a game I'd rather not remember."

Because of his raw skills, Betiku is definitely a player to watch over the next few months as more and more schools make offers and get to know him. Washington seems to be in the mix early on, but it will definitely be a chore to keep his interest with the list of suitors growing.
