Trip Report - Benning Potoae

He's been to Washington countless times over the past four years, especially since his brother was a Husky, but the UW coaches were still able to impress the top player on their board, Lakes (Lakewood, Wa.) DL Benning Potoae, when he took his official visit over the weekend. The four-star defensive line prospect recapped his 48 hours on Montlake and also about his upcoming decision...

"It was a great visit. It really felt like home," Potoae told "Honestly, with how many times I have been there, I wasn't thinking they could impress me that much, but they just blew me away. I really felt at home there and got to know the coaches even better than I already knew them."

Potoae's host on his visit was redshirt freshman DL Vita Vea and he also spent a lot of time with fellow visitor and UW-commit Ricky McCoy.

"Yeah, we had a great time. I really loved spending time with those guys," Potoae said. "I formed some great relationships there and really felt at home. I loved it."

One of the biggest selling points for Potoae was the chance to sit down, one-on-one with head coach Chris Petersen and the second-year captain of the Husky football program laid it all out for the last four-star recruit from the state who remains uncommitted.

"He's so genuine," Potoae said. "He really makes you feel at home, but also he shows you how much he cares about you as a person. Obviously, he cares about you as a player too, he wants you to succeed and do great things on the football field, but more than anything, he lets you know that you are family, that you matter to him off the field too.

"There are so many coaches out there who aren't like that, but he definitely has that and I liked that a lot and so did my parents."

Potoae had planned to host Petersen in his home late on Thursday, but instead, he will have Petersen in his home tonight and he will make his announcement on Thursday, at 2:30 p.m., from his school.

"I won't do a hat thing, hat dance, nothing like that," Potoae said. "I'll probably just come up and announce it." will be at Lakes tomorrow to cover Potoae's announcement and will have updates as soon as it happens.
