Potoae Is A Husky

Speculation became reality on Thursday when Lakes (Lakewood, Wa.) DL Benning Potoae, the top defensive recruit left on Washington’s board, decided to become a Husky, announcing his intentions in front of family, friends and media members at Lakes High School…

Rumors swirled as late as Sunday night that UCLA led for the talented defensive lineman and Bruins head coach Jim Mora even made an in-home visit with the Potoae family that night. However, the official visit that Potoe took to Montlake last weekend seemed to turn the tide Washington’s way and then head coach Chris Petersen and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski made an in-home visit last night to lock things in for the Huskies.

Potoae, at nearly 6’4” and 265 pounds, was a highly sought-after prospect, probably the most heavily recruited in the state, with offers from schools across the country including Arkansas, USC, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Ohio State among others.

Potoae becomes the 23rd commitment in Washington’s 2015 recruiting class and seventh from the state of Washington, joining CB Austin Joyner (Marysville), LB/DE Jusstis Warren (Tacoma), ATH Chico McClatcher (Federal Way), OT Henry Roberts (Bellevue), RB Myles Gaskin (Seattle) and OT Trey Adams (Wenatchee) who had all made their decisions earlier in the process.

Dawgman.com’s Chris Fetters is at Lakes High School and will have video coverage of the event posted shortly.
