Kanouse Talks About UW Junior Day

Even though he's only a sophomore, Peninsula (Gig Harbor, Wa.) Cody Kanouse attended the Junior Day events at Montlake on Saturday. He spoke with Dawgman.com about his visit to UW as well as where things currently stand on the recruiting front...

"It was great," Kanouse told Dawgman.com. "We met a lot of really great people and their hospitality was great.

"I really enjoyed their honesty and their 'OKG' philosophy was an eye-opener."

While he was on campus, Kanouse got to spend some time bonding with some other players from the 2017 class including Graham (Wa.) Kapowsin OT Foster Sarell and Skyline (Sammamish, Wa.) OL Henry Bainivalu.

"I've known Foster for a while, so it was cool catching up with hi and I got to know Henry a little better too. Henry is really good guy so it was cool hanging out with him again," Kanouse said. "I also met Brody McKnight from Eastside Catholic. He's another guy I already sorta knew from before, but getting to hang out with him again was cool."

In addition to the hang time fellow recruits, Kanouse and his parents also appreciated the academic presentation that was part of the event.

"One of the academic advisors spent time showing us the academic resources that they have for the athletes. It was really interesting."

On the recruiting front, while Kanouse doesn't have any offers at this point, he's been talking to quite a few schools.

"Washington obviously is showing me some interest," Kanouse said. "This past month, Oregon dropped by to talk to my coach and I talked to coach (Steve) Greatwood. I also saw the coaches from Stanford, Washington State and Arizona come by as well.

"I can't really talk to them yet, but they just said 'hi' and introduced themselves."

Kanouse is a huge prospect, measuring in at close to 6'8" and weighing 305 pounds, who will enter his junior season as a two-year starter.

We will have more on Kanouse in the future as he hits the camp circuit this summer.
