Husky Offer 'Surreal' For Bainivalu

While on campus for Washington's Junior Day this weekend, 2017 Skyline (Sammamish, Wa.) OT Henry Bainivalu was offered by the Dawgs. He recapped his visit to Montlake with late Sunday evening and is still a bit in disbelief that he received his first offer...

"It's still sorta surreal," Bainivalu told Dawgman. "When (head coach Chris Petersen) pulled me aside to talk, I was like 'whoa, he wants to talk to me?'.

"He and coach (Chris) Strausser were both in the office, sitting around the fire place with my parents and myself and they just said they did their homework on me and that I was was an 'OKG' -- their kind of guy."

The offer is Bainivalu's first.

"It's weird because I just never thought I'd get that offer," Bainivalu said. "Now that I have it, it just sorta surprised me."

While the offer was most definitely the highlight of the day for Bainivalu, he also enjoyed the presentations and tours that the players got to see and be part of during the Junior Day event.

"I thought all of the facilities were really nice and modern," Bainivalu recalled. "I loved the dorms, that was cool to see, and I also liked how they showed us all of the support they give to the athletes. It was all really impressive."

Bainivalu started at both right and left tackle for Skyline this past season and he becomes the third 2017 in-state offer that the Huskies have extended, joining the ones UW had already sent out to Graham-Kapowsin OT Foster Sarell and Juanita (Kirkland) ATH Salvon Ahmed.
