QB Matt Gutierrez Update

Matt Gutierrez is one of the top quarterbacks on the west coast as he enters his senior season. At 6-4 and 210 pounds, Matt is the triggerman for mighty De La Salle High school in Concord, CA.

The top quarterback camp on the west cost each year is the "Elite 11", a five-day event where some of the top throwers in the region. Gutierrez was invited and was impressed by the teaching and the amount of attention they received.

"It was a great experience getting to meet all those guys and to get to work on nothing but quarterbacking technique for five days was really helpful," said Gutierrez.

"I think I made a lot physical advancement. My footwork and accuracy really improved while I was down there."

Several college quarterbacks came to help with the camp, directed by long time QB guru Bob Johnson, who also coaches at Mission Viejo High School.

"I was really impressed by all of them. The guys that helped us out where really outstanding. It was exciting to listen to them talk and share their experiences and then turn on the television and see them play. Kurt Kittner was there and he played on Saturday. That really makes an impact on you," said Gutierrez.

Kittner's Illinois squad blew out Cal 44-17 and Kittner threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

De La Salle opens their season on Saturday against Buchanan High School. Gutierrez is more than ready to get the ball rolling.

"Right now all my focus is on school and football. I've not set up any recruiting visits or come up with a game plan yet. I hope to narrow things down in the next couple of weeks,"
