WOODINVILLE, Wash. - Dan Marino, the NFL Hall of Famer and 60,000-yard passer during his 17-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, is still mastering passing beyond the game of football. His newest passion is Passing Time, a winery collaboration with Damon Huard, former Washington Huskies star quarterback, 14-year NFL veteran and current UW Director of Community Relations.
On Saturday afternoon, Marino and Huard were at Avennia Cellars, their makeshift home while Passing Time Winery’s home is being constructed next door. They hosted the release of their first ever vintage, a 2012 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon - a wine over two years in the making - to nearly 500 people eager to sample not just the 2012 Cab, but also some early 2013 and 2014 tastings. The event was a smashing success.
Dawgman.com’s Kim Grinolds - a wine enthusiast in his own right - took some time to speak with Huard and Marino about Passing Time, why it made sense to make the wine here in the state of Washington using grapes sourced from some of the top appellations in the region, and what their plans are for the winery going forward.
