"It was a great time," Kanouse told Dawgman.com about the Rising Stars camp on Saturday. "I got there a little late because I was taking the SAT, but when I got there, they were just getting ready to run some one-on-ones, so I warmed up and then I jumped in and I think I did pretty well.
"I won all but one of my one-on-ones and I felt like I did pretty well."
One of the bonuses for Kanouse was that he got some one-on-one time with Husky offensive line coach Chris Strausser as well.
"Because I was a little, late, coach Strausser spent some time alone with me, working on my stance and my steps. That was special to me because you don't typically get a Pac 12 offensive line coach spending that much time with you one-on-one. That was really cool."
Kanouse also held his own at the Northwest Elite Camp held at Lynnwood High School the night before.
"There were so many coaches and players there, it was a really great event," Kanouse noted. "I got a lot of great tips from the different coaches there and they were stuff I could work on.
"It was stuff like, if I am loading up my leg in my set, then I need to do this or if the defensive end is doing this, then I need to make this step in order to counter it, stuff like that. I learned a lot of great things, so now it's all stuff I'm going to work on this summer to get better and ready for my (junior) season."
With those two camps out of the way, Kanouse will now get ready to head down to Corvallis this Friday to take part in the Oregon State camp and then he'll head to Eugene to take part in the Oregon NFTC on Sunday.
The following week will see Kanouse head to Stanford and then he'll hook up with the rest of his teammates at his team's camp at Western Oregon to close things out.
Kanouse, along with Foster Sarell from Graham-Kapowsin and Henry Bainivalu from Skyline (Sammamish), is part of one of the deepest line classes the state of Washington has ever produced. While he's still waiting patiently for schools to offer, he has plenty showing him attention including Arizona, Arizona State and even UCLA and USC.
We'll have more from Kanouse in the coming weeks and months as he continues to go through the early recruiting process.
