Attributes: Hughes-Murray is athletic, he's big and he plays for one of top 4A schools in the state of Washington. The senior-to-be has great instincts and he rarely gets washed out in traffic. Hughes-Murray is also one of the hardest workers on the field and he loves to compete.
Things To Work On: Hughes-Murray is solid in almost every aspect of his game. He could add more flexibility as he's good, but not a stalwart in coverage. Hughes-Murray could probably be more physical at the point-of-attack, but that isn't so much a concern as it is something we have noticed in the four or five games we've seen him play.
Position Projection: Because he's added quite a bit of muscle to his frame, Hughes-Murray is right around 240 pounds. He projects as an inside linebacker, but some seem to think he could grow himself in a BUCK linebacker spot. Since he's not a natural in pass-coverage, that makes a bit of sense, but at this point, middle/inside linebacker appears to be where he will fit the best.
Recruiting Buzz: Hughes-Murray currently holds offers from Air Force, Eastern Washington, Montana, New Mexico, UNLV and Utah State, but he's very close to offers from some Pac 12 programs including Washington, Washington State and Oregon State. Most of the bigger schools that are after him have said that they want to see his first three games this fall before they make a decision on whether or not they will offer him. We've made no secret of our esteem for Hughes-Murray and where he projects at the next level. If he's patient, he should have several Power 5 offers in his hands before the end of his season and then it will be about finding the best fit for him for the next four or five years.
