Stanback received plenty of phone calls last weekend, but wasn't able to talk to anyone. "I was out of town visiting my niece who turned two," said Stanback.
He did check his voice mails, however. "I received seven calls from six different schools. On Sunday I received calls from two other schools. UW, USC, WSU, UCLA, SDS, Nevada, and Arizona State all called."
Although Stanback missed the call from Rick Neuheisel, he was able to catch up with the Husky coach by attending a UW practice earlier this week.
"I went down to UW practice, it was cool. I go down there every now and then," said Stanback. "Neuheisel was doing a lot of coaching when I was there. He just asked how my jamboree went."
Stanback's jamboree went excellent. Playing on half of a field with 12 plays on offense, Garfield beat Wilson 7-0 and then beat Stadium 14-0. Stanback threw for two TDs and ran for one more.
He was somewhat awed by watching the Huskies practice. The pace and talent level both stood out to him. "It kind of scares me," Stanback said with a laugh. "I just tell myself, ‘That's next year, and that's ridiculous.'"
At Garfield Stanback's linemen are around 220 pounds, the biggest being 260. "I look at the UW line and they are 300 across. Those guys are huge," said Stanback.
He has yet to set up any visits but has two that he believes he'll take for sure. "USC and UW are two I'm thinking about. All the rest are up in the air because I don't think all of my scholarship offers have come in yet," said Stanback.
He has scholarship offers from Washington, WSU, Purdue, Nebraska, UCLA, and USC.
Garfield opens their season at Redmond this weekend against the Mustangs.
