VIDEO: UW LB Scott Lawyer - Oregon

Washington Linebacker Scott Lawyer spoke to the media Tuesday about the role he'll play in stepping into Azeem Victor's shoes the first half of Washington's game Saturday against the Oregon Ducks. Victor was suspended for the first half of Saturday's game due to a targeting penalty in UW's 17-12 win at USC.

On stepping into a starting role this weekend with Azeem Victor suspended for the first half “I just have to step up and do what I have to do. I’m ready to play and I feel like once Azeem gets back in there it’s going to be a great game. I’m just going to hold them off until we get there and see what happens.”

On if he’s excited for the opportunity “Yeah, definitely excited, but then again I’m ready. I think it’s going to be a great game. Our defense if is already preparing really well. I can’t wait.”

On the key to stopping Royce Freeman “It’s tackling, fundamentals, staying low, you always have to go low, and get your eyes right. I feel like if we get those right we have a great chance.”

On working on hunting in packs during the bye week and how that paid off against USC “I feel like it did. We had a bye week so we had time to work on fundamentals and get everything straight with our tackling. I feel like it carried over really well.”

On the matchup against Oregon “We’re looking forward to it. Like you said, it’s been a long time. If we come out prepared and with the right mindset I think it will be a great game. I’m looking forward to seeing the outcome.” Top Stories
