Here are some observations, news and notes from around the Pac 12 conference after week 11 of the college football season...

-- Christian McCaffrey should be in New York for the Heisman Award presentation. He’s been nothing short of remarkable. Last weekend he had 192 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, he caught one pass for 49 yards and another score and he had three kickoff returns for 148 yards with one going back 98 yards for a fourth touchdown in Stanford’s 35-22 win over Cal in the Big Game.

-- Amazingly, even after getting throttled by Oregon, USC still controls its own destiny with UCLA’s win over Utah last weekend. All the Trojans have to do is beat UCLA, something they haven’t done in three years, and they will represent the South in the Pac 12 Championship game.

-- Oregon is playing the best football in the conference, but it was too little too late. Stanford has already wrapped up the North spot in the Pac 12 Championship.

-- Sonny Dykes may have saved his job with a bowl game, but after Jared Goff leaves early for the NFL, you will see how bad Cal’s QB recruiting has been over the past couple of years and that will lead to Dykes’ likely departure following the 2016 season.

-- While losing Devontae Booker was a blow, I was very impressed with the performance of Joe Williams who carried the ball 26 times for 121 yards against a decent UCLA front seven. The problem? Booker is one of the best receivers out of the backfield in the country and Williams, while he was competent in that area, isn’t in the same class as Booker.

-- Is Kyle Whittingham really the guy for USC? Seems like a bit of a stretch for both Whittingham and USC considering the cache that program brings. Most think that if Clay Helton is retained as the new head coach or if someone like Whittingham is hired, the reason would be because Pat Hayden could control them, something he desperately wants. The players want Helton, but it doesn’t sound like the boosters are behind that selection. Does that put Whittingham in the lead? Going to be an interesting offseason.

-- Travis Wilson is not a good passer, however, he is a very underrated runner. What is Utah going to do once he graduates? No one has really stood up and shown that they can be “the man” for the future yet.

-- Going to be several years before Oregon State gets out of the cellar in the Pac 12. No speed, little size and, as much as I like Nick Mitchell, they do not have a Pac 12 caliber quarterback.

-- Will Luke Falk play this Friday in the Apple Cup? That's the big questions. It's really hard to say, especially after you saw the way he was carted off the field on Saturday. Nothing would surprise me with Mike Leach.

-- The rumors seem to be picking up steam with Rich Rodriguez. Very few people think he will return after a 6-6 season. I guess the real question is…will he leave on his own accord (for another job) or will it be the school’s prerogative?

-- Congrats to Washington State RB Gerard Wicks…over 100 yards rushing for a WSU tailback is like most other tailbacks getting 300 yards.

-- By the way…I really hate it that two of the rivalry games have already been played. Stanford/Cal and Arizona/Arizona State should both be played this weekend when all of the other in-conference rivalry games are played. Top Stories
