VIDEO: Washington Defensive Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski Saturday Briefing spoke Saturday with Washington Defensive Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski after the Huskies resumed their bowl practice schedule with a busy workout inside the Dempsey Indoor.

On if thought the defense would be this good before the season started “I would have been surprised just because of all of the unknowns. A lot of the guys at the start of the season hadn’t played a lot of football. It’s something to be proud of and I think the guys are proud of it. I tell the guys all the time that’s something in the past and that’s something we can hang our hat on but you have to go out and you’re always as good as your next performance. We have to have a good week of prep.”

On if guys are more on the same page in this bowl game prep compared to last year’s bowl game “Yeah I think so. We’ve been together now two years and so kind of that familiarity and trust and all those things being with each other for a whole other year on top of last year. It’s definitely a different feeling with everybody being comfortable for each other. They know our expectations and accountability factor and all that stuff adds up.”

On Southern Miss’ offense “It comes down to playing situational football. We have to do a good job on first and second down. When we get them in third down we have to do a good job on third down. They’re really good on third down. We’ve got to do our jobs and play at a high level with the same type of intensity as we did against WSU and that comes back to our prep. We have to have good practices and build skill. We can’t go through the motions; we’re going to go out there and we’re going to get better. When we’re doing that we’re honing our skills, sharpening the blade. When we go out there we cut it loose and play.”

On if Southern Miss’ offensive coordinator leaving changes anything fundamentally about their offense“No. We prepare for what we see on video and whatever they do. If it changes we adjust. We have no crystal ball, so we prepare for what we see and we’re going to do what we do. We have to go out there and it always comes back to playing your rolls, playing hard, and execute. When I talk about execute I’m talking about getting off blocks, Top Stories
