VIDEO: Washington Defensive Backs Coach Jimmy Lake Saturday Briefing's Luke Mounger spoke Saturday with Washington Defensive Backs Coach Jimmy Lake after the Huskies resumed their bowl practice schedule with a busy workout inside the Dempsey Indoor.

On individual and group performances this season “It’s been an exciting season> it’s fun to watch all these guys grow and get better week in and week out. That’s awesome that we got some recognition for the DBs with Budda (Baker) and Sidney (Jones) and obviously Kevin (King). I’ll throw in there Brian (Clay). Brian Clay played an unbelievable senior season. He filled an unbelievable role for us on special teams and was a 12 game starter at safety for us and he’ll start here in the bowl game. It’s just been fun watching these guys grow and it’s awesome to get some recognition, that the other coaches in the conference and other players also see that these guys have done some significant things.”

On carrying over momentum through the long break between games “I think that’s really on us as coaches. We have to make sure these guys are really dialed in and there’s no rust. That all comes back to coaching. We have to motivate these guys. We just had a really good practice just now. We’re going to practice again tomorrow and you’re right; we have to make sure we’re not rusty going to that game and that all comes back to coaching. So as long as we do our job or guys should be ready to go and play well on the 26th.”

On when Sidney Jones started to look like an all-conference corner to him “I mean I’ve been excited about him since last year. I was really excited game three or game four when he became a full time starter for us as a true freshman. I knew there was something special about him. He works his butt off. He watches extra film with me all the time, works after practice extra, always asks really intelligent questions in the meetings. He makes plays all the time in practice. If guys make plays in practice you know they’ll make them in the games. I’m probably not the one to ask because I’m biased but I think he’s an excellent player and I’m glad he’s a part of our football team.” Top Stories
