Husky senior DL Taniel Tupou talks about Washington's 44-31 win over Southern Miss in the Heart of Dallas Bowl

Dawgman.com caught up with Washington senior DL Taniela Tupou following his team's big 44-31 win over Southern Miss in the Heart of Dallas Bowl...

On how he felt to finish off his career with a win: "I'm just excited and happy. Words can't really express how I'm feeling. I'm just happy to be with these guys. I love my brothers and to go out and get a win with them was awesome."

On what he expected from Southern Miss: "I expect a really good offense and that's what they gave us today. They had some explosive plays. I thought there were some times we shot ourselves in the foot and gave up some big plays, but other than that, they came out and played a really great game so hats off to them. They had a really good quarterback who was making some throws and the receivers, I was like 'what the heck' on some of those catches, hats off though."

On why they were able to shut them down for the most part after halftime: "Our talk at halftime was really just to settle down. At the start of the game, we had quite a few penalties, unsportsmanlike conducts, just stupid mistakes; there was so much emotion going into this game; our team right now is so close to each other, for us to go out and play our last game, we were too juiced and coach Pete and the coaches talk about not being too low or too high, so when the second half came around, we just said settle down and play our game and let's just go."

On the progress of the defense over the season: "The defense has made huge strides. As far as everyone just playing collectively together, our thing is 'do your job'. We just go out and try and do our job. Everybody has their job and they know what their role is and that was our thing this year."
