BREAKING: Byron Murphy Picks Washington

Washington landed another big commitment, this time Thursday morning as Byron Murphy, a 5-foot-11, 168-pound athlete from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., chose the Huskies over Arizona State during a ceremony at his high school.

Byron Murphy, after thanking everyone in the room - and especially his coaches and Saguaro family - picked up a Washington hat, clearly to the surprise of most in the room.

Considered the number-one prospect out of Arizona for 2016, Murphy is a four-star athlete and ranked 111 in the Scout.com Top-300 prospects.  The Huskies received a commitment earlier in the process from the top quarterback in Arizona, Daniel Bridge-Gadd.

Murphy is ranked as the 10th best athlete in the nation by Scout because of his dominance on both sides of the football. As a receiver he caught 88 passes for 1,733 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior while helping his team win the D2 state title. He also added four scores rushing. On defense he made 52 tackles and seven interceptions. UW is recruiting Murphy as a defensive player.

The Huskies have loved Murphy as a prospect for a long time, enticing him to unofficially visit over the summer during their Rising Stars camp. He then officially visited Montlake at the end of September.
