“Pretty much after I committed,” Wellington confirmed. “It kind of opened up again but it was just talk. It wasn’t anything serious.”
So how did his official visit go? “It went really well,” he said. “It was really fun. They had a lot of things planned for us. They took us through most of the campus and took us lazer tagging - that was probably the highlight.”
Benning Potoa’e was Wellington’s player-host. “They are just excited for next year,” Wellington said when asked what Benning’s words of wisdom were when they got a chance to talk about his time at UW.
In fact Wellington spent most of his visit time with the players. “They’re all welcoming, all really nice to me,” he said.
How did the conversations go with his future position coach, Bob Gregory? Where is his future on the football field? “Just linebacker, probably SAM - something like that,” said Wellington. “They are excited. It’s almost time to be out there.”
Wellington said he will sign “at 7:02 (am)” and then will go through a signing ceremony with his teammates at Eastside Catholic later in the day.
“You have to sign after 7 o’clock, so I’ll do that,” he added.
Anything else to say to Washington fans? “Go Dawgs,” said Wellington. “I’m excited to get up there.”
