2017 Corona Del Mar (Newport, Ca.) QB Chase Garbers will visit Montlake in April and his ties to the Huskies run very deep

As the 2017 recruiting cycle begins to pick up steam, the Huskies continue their search for a quarterback and one who will be visiting Montlake in April is Corona Del Mar (Newport, Ca.) QB Chase Garbers, a rising star among West Coast signal-callers, who has seen his stock steadily rise since the end of his junior season...

As a junior last year, Garbers led his team to a 9-3 record while completing nearly 69% of his passes for 2,715 yards, 33 touchdowns and three interceptions and rushing for 457 yards and seven scores.

Garbers currently holds offers from Washington State, Colorado State, Boston College and Boise State and he has a host of other FBS programs that are after him including the Huskies.

"I know a lot about the (Washington) program," Garbers told Dawgman.com recently. "Most of my family on my dad's side went there, so I have the family ties, but also my soon-to-be 'cousin in-law' (Kalani Aldrich) played defensive end there.

"Coach (Chris) Petersen and coach (Jonathan) Smith are great guys and better coaches. I got to work with them last year (at a satellite camp) and it was awesome.

"Coach Smith actually came to (my high school) to see me for a day last month and that was great too."

As far as where he is in the evaluation process with the Dawgs, Garbers said he knows they are looking at his film and he's got some stiff competition for an offer.

"(Smith) told me I'm one of six quarterbacks they are looking at and they are making their decision soon. I'm hoping an offer will come really soon. A Washington offer would mean a lot to me and my family because of my family history so it's something that I'm looking forward to."

Garbers also plans to take a trip to Seattle to check things out and meet with the coaches in April.

"I'm heading up there in April at some point," Garbers noted. "I haven't got the exact date yet, but I will lock that in pretty soon.

"I'm also planning to visit Cal, Washington State, Duke and Colorado too this spring and any other schools that offer or want me to come, I'm looking at visiting those schools too. I also want to check out some schools this summer too, so I'll be busy traveling and see the schools as I try to sort things out and make a decision."

When that decision will be made is still up in the air, but Garbers said he won't wait on things for the sake of drama.

"I really don't have a set date or anything," Garbers said. "When it feels right, I will do it and be done, but I'm not going to rush into anything to make my decision."

We'll have more on Garbers in the coming weeks as he gets closer to making a decision and we will have more as news happens.
