2016 Woodinville (Wa.) OL Duke Clinch has made the decision to walk-on at the University of Washington

The Washington coaches got some good news on Monday when 2016 Woodinville (Wa.) OL Duke Clinch added his name to the list of "committed" preferred walk-ons who plan to enroll in the summer...

Clinch had offers from Central Washington and Western State Colorado, two D-2 programs, as well as a preferred walk-on offer from Washington State. However, when Washington came calling and made him the offer of a preferred walk-on spot, he didn't have to think about it too long.

"Washington actually approached me shortly before Signing Day about possibly walking on," Clinch told Dawgman.com. "They have been the school I had always dreamed of going to, so when that walk-on offer came, I was really excited and so was my family.

"My dad actually attended Medical School there and when I went on my visit, he was really sorta diplomatic. He kept saying 'well, you need to weigh your options' and 'let's see how you feel about Washington State'.

"I was actually going to head to Washington State because a lot of my friends are there, but when Washington came along, that was pretty much it. I knew where I wanted to go."

Clinch was also nudged by his mother.

"When we went up there for an unofficial visit a couple of weeks ago, she was there and she was like 'you're an idiot if you don't take this opportunity'," Clinch said with a chuckle.

Clinch currently measures in at 6'2.5" and we weighed in on his visit at 280 pounds and he said Washington has told him they see him as a guard although he's open to playing center if that's where he's needed.

"I'm thinking probably guard, but I'm going to work on my snaps this offseason so I can make myself that much more versatile," Clinch noted.

In addition to his exploits on the football field, where he was named a First Team All-Kingco 4A , Clinch is also an accomplished wrestler -- winning the Kingco 4A title for the 285 weight class.

Clinch will enroll at Washington this summer when other freshmen report for the LEAP program and he will be on hand for the start of fall camp at the beginning of August.

Clinch is the fifth known preferred walk-on to pledge that he will enroll this summer. The others are Santa Monica S Mason Stone, Skyline (Sammamish, Wa.) QB Blake Gregory, Loyola (Los Angeles, Ca.) CB Myles Bryant and IMG (Bradenton, Fl.) LB/DE Ryan Bowman.
